Introducing the KDE Desktop 74 Getting Started Guide Desktop icons: These icons are included by default when you start KDE. They include a personal Trash bin to throw away (delete) files and others to automatically start programs when you launch KDE (this is described in Chapter 6). The Panel: This is a collection of applications that are commonly used in KDE, such as the configuration Control Center and a Text Editor. You can click on any Panel icon to start the corresponding application. Main menu: (Clicking on the main menu is used to access a wide range of KDE applications and functions. The following section provides more detail about some of the main menu items. The Taskbar: Whenever you start an application, a task bar button appears at the top of the screen with the name of the application on it. (This is sim- ilar in function to the taskbar in Microsoft Windows.) Click on a Taskbar button to switch to that window.
